Light Saber Weapons Technology

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering....how do you think a lightsaber beam ends? If it were a laser it wouldn't come to a point, but would keep extending out like a beam! So how could the length of the light saber beam be limited to a certain length?

I have heard it said that there are a number of possible theories:

1. The beam makes a 90-degree turn and goes off into the 4th dimension.

2. Perhaps the beam somehow breaks the inverse square law and stays strong until a certain point then dies?

3. Timed pulses of electrostatic positive and negative photons could move charged plasma out the end of the handle and back into the saber.

Does anyone have any other thoughts or ideas on this kind of technology or how it could be achieved?

Hmmm to be honest, no one can come close to/really think about making a lightsaber until there is a very groundbreaking discovery in technology. 4th dimension is theory. If it DOES break the law, then that means everything built on that law is compramised...meaning a lot.

Another thing to consider, we shouldn't see the lasers/laser beams at all.

hmmmm....obviously there are no more scientific thinkers in this group? Oh well....

lol, it hurts our brains. it would be cool to have lightsaber technology, but i don't think it will happen anytime soon.

We have brains?

lol, nah there are a couple people around who would contribute scientifically to this thread, I'm sure they'll pop up sometime soonish.

I've heard of an awesome theory. They're coolness defies all laws and technology.

i just think that it's funny how they're flat in the original trilogy, but they're rounded in the new trilogy

That's what the focussing crystals are for silly! The laser beam focuses through the crystals that act not so unlike a prism to show us the light of the saber. :p

You can't see sunlight either unless you put it through a prism.

They may not have lightsabers yet but they already have bongsabers!

Relax and take a seat. we are about to go on a journey....

release the pressure and don't become a prisoner of technology.

glow pulsate spin in perpetual motion

fuzzy blonde diskettes dancing furiously to a funky beat

sooo cooool blast off into outer space here we go

can you feel the vibe as time seems to slow right down and everything becomes distorted

and it seems like a progression of moment upon moment

since the light is focused through the magical crystal, then comes out and ends wouldnt the beam end depending on the frequency of the light possibly cancelling out at a specific point. because think about it like this in one of the star wars novels,

from sw.com

lightsabers have changed little in the thousands of years of their employ by the Jedi Knights. Those who believe the Jedi order began on the ancient world of Ossus point to the abundance of Adegan crystals in the system as proof. These crystals are ideal for the creation of lightsabers, as they focus the energy released from a saber's power cell into the tight, blade-like beam. Early lightsabers did not have self-contained power cells, and were instead connected by a conducting cable to a belt-worn power pack.

Once unleashed, the power channels through a positively charged continuous energy lens at the center of the handle. The beam then arcs circumferentially back to a negatively charged high energy flux aperture. A superconductor transfers the power from the flux aperture to the power cell. As a result, a lightsaber only expends power when its blade cuts through something. So efficient is the blade, that it does not radiate heat unless it comes into contact with something.

The blade's color depends on the nature of the jewel it springs from, and while its length is fixed in the case of a single-jewel lightsaber, lightsabers equipped with multiple crystals can have their length varied by rotating a knob that allows the focusing crystal activator to subtly modify the refraction pattern between the gems.

With the Sith long believed extinct, lightsaber dueling occurred only within the practice chambers of the Jedi Temple. To a Jedi, a lightsaber is not just a weapon. It is a means of concentrating attention and becoming attuned with the Force.

Lightsabers, made of immaterial beams of light, collide whereas they should pass right through one another without a sound. Moreover, laser beams propagate in a straight line as long as they do not meet an obstacle, therefore scientifically correct lightsaber blades would cut through a starship hull. This would mean that dueling with lightsabers would be like dueling with flashlights because the blades would pass through each other and continue to travel until they hit an object, not reflecting back onto themselves.

Instead of a laser-based device, the most believable design for a lightsaber-like device would use plasma confined by a magnetic field. Plasma is a super-heated gas and is also the fourth state of matter, the color and luminosity of which varies depending on the temperature and composition. Plasma could be ionized by a particle beam from a compact particle accelerator; at relativistic energies, the beam would produce its own blue glow along its axis from Cherenkov radiation.

Keeping a gas in the plasma-state requires considerable energy: 40 kW are necessary for a 10 centimeter (4 in) saber at 10,000?C (18,000?F). It would be difficult to fit the required generator into the saber's hilt. To control and increase the length of the blade, the plasma would need to be confined within a magnetic field. Although this design would behave like a lightsaber from the Star Wars movies, it is considered foolhardy to confine plasma magnetically. A handful of magnets would disrupt the confinement field, and plasma would spill onto the saber's wielder. Furthermore, the magnetic field would prevent the plasma from performing any cutting action because it would always be shielded from whatever the blade struck by the magnetic field.

To make a semi-solid beam of energy which could interact with both matter and energy would require containing a quasar and quantum singularity inside the hilt. The gravitational field would pull all the quasar's expelled plasma back moments after the quasar releases them. The speed of the returning plasma would form a chainsaw effect allowing it to cut through the matter with ease, while still being stopped by an opposing beam. A modulated gravity field would bounce, allowing for the reflection of energy beams. So far, no known substance exists which is able to contain a quantum singularity or to contain and/or focus a gravitational field.

A lightsaber in reality would be difficult to wield , since its center of gravity would be in the hilt next to the hand. A real sword has its center of gravity further from the hand, which allows the user more control and power in the swings and thrusts. With a lightsaber, a user would need to have much more control and wrist strength in order to accurately use a lightsaber with strength and power.

ummm yeah you dont have to be smart to know this stuff... just go look for it.
