A Nation Defiant

My uncle who lives in England sent this to me...

Hello Lads,

I don't know what sort of news coverage you're getting in the U.S, but I just thought I'd show you some pictures of London yesterday... 3 days after the terrorists struck:

noname.jpg

A Lancaster Bomber, escorted by a Spitfire and a Hurricane flies over Buckingham Palace to the Mall. Between 250,000 and 500,000 people are in the Mall. The Queen and the Royal Family are on the balcony of Buck House just as she was with Winston Churchill in 1945.

The bomb doors open, and a million poppies fall to earth to commemorate those who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom and peace.

noname-2.jpg

So, if anyone thinks they can force us to change our ways with bombs, and start being cowed by terror, then they'd better think again. The Daily Mirror summed it up nicely:

noname-3.jpg

I was in the summer sunshine in the Cotswolds, when I was fortunate to see something that I'd never seen before "live" before me. Coming towards me over the trees and climbing slowly towards its cruising height was the unforgettable sight and sound of a Spitfire, with its stunningly shaped wings. Perhaps one of the most beautiful planes that ever flew. It was on its way to a flypast to commemorate the 60th anniversary of WWII celebrations. I felt overwhelming proud to have seen it fly over my home.

noname-4.jpg

65 years ago, over the same summer skies, Spitfires and Hurricanes, and the young men who flew them, saved my little country and in saving it helped save the world from a terrible darkness.

So if those bloody cowards with their sodding beards, heads with tea-towels wrapped round them, and their "jihads" against innocent women and children think they can do better than Hitler, or Napoleon or Phillip the Second of Spain or any of the rest of them, well they'll be in a for a shock.

An "islamic" web site claimed that "London was ablaze with panic and fear" after Thursday. As one wag at Kings Cross station noted on a sign underneath a huge Union Jack: "London ablaze with panic and fear"... "MY ARSE".

Hope to have a pint with you all soon. Thanks again for the kind messages.

I like England's way of dealing with it better. You had beautiful poppies falling from the sky. We got American flags that attach to your car window.

Not really I mean in all reality the war has only united america against itself... and bush did a good job at getting a majority of the people to hate him...

but go figure, most of them are athiests who dont like his usage of god, in his speeches since he should be representing the american people and not pushing his beliefs on others...

ie the war in iraq..

christianity, the list goes on... but in truth it will not get any better... there will be a new idiot in office next term who may help us a bit but wont even begin to scratch the surface on repairing this nation to its rightful glory.

when it actually stood for freedom, now it just uses freedom as an excuse and trading tool for safety.

When will the politicians realize they are only angering the american people further into distrust for them. i mean people use to hate lawyers now, we hate politicians. and for what you ask because they wait until the last moment and pass legislation that doesnt help anyone and ends up taking more money from the people of this country that have the hardest problems already.

but it's all because we see ourselves as the police of this world. when we do something, someone gets mad. when we don't do something, more people get mad. i personally don't mind the fact that he's taken the lesser of two evils. i do, however, have a problem with the unnecessary losses on life because of the war...

The politicians are treating politics like a game now, and it's pissing me off. They don't care about the good of the people, the nation, or the nation's ideals, they just want to win.

there's no way it's going to change either. even if someone wanted to do some good, they'd have to sell their soul to get in a position to do som

Nothing about politians has changed recently, btw. They always have been, and always will be like that. It's in the very nature of the job.

Just when everyone talks about how evil they are, they always make it sound like it's only recently, lol.

They opnly talk about it as "recently" because Nixon was the first time people realized politicians lied to them. Before then they truly thought poiticians were 100% for the people.

Money has always been a part of politics. But never to the degree or blantantness that it is today. Democracy was not forged to be for the monied. And over the past 229 years, many heroic Americans have given of their lives to remind people that Democracy is for the people. ALL the people. The American people of today are more disillussioned than ever before. But we also don't seem to want to get off our duffs and do anything about the money in politics. We're too engrossed with a woman that's runaway from her wedding. Or the next woman that's been murdered and finding her killer. Hopefully one day, Americans will be so outraged, they'll start to do things about money in politics. There are people out there that are trying. It's up to the American citizenry to get their country back.

Democracy was not forged to be for the monied.

Are you kidding me? The original Constitution left out everybody that wasn't full of money. Only landed white men could vote.....ring a bell?

The founding fathers were just as crooked as any. You just don't hear about it much, because whover said it's right. People are stupid and really believed polititians bullsith that they were on our side up until something major smacks them over the head repeatedly, like Nixon...

Well, because of human nature, there will never be any such thing as a perfect government.

OMG I think TSL just said I was right.

I'll return the favor. She's right. Electoral College? The founding fathers didnt trust the people to vote for the president. Voting? Until it became a problem, only white male landowners. Notice how politicians are from the upper class. Sure, you can say "John Edwards had a poor family who didnt have a high degree of schooling" and its nice and touching. But when it comes down the the wire, John Edwards isnt "The son of a uneducated poor farmer" he's "A succesful lawyer who won lots of money fighting legal battles" Success stories are nice, but they dont make the person. The founding fathers don't get flak cause of who they are: The Fathers of our country. They created the Civil War, they created the punishment of the Native Americans. There're two sides to everything.

But I agree with Mirax. The media does tend to show useless things. People die every day. Every second. Some I guess are more important than others.

No I'm not kidding. Thomas Jefferson wrote, "We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal...." He was a horrible role model and did despicable things in his time. But that does not take away that he was a visionary. And these are the principals in which our nation was founded. To quote Bill Moyers, "Thomas Jefferson knew that it would be necesary for each generation not only to cherish and preserve the Declaration's heritage of freedom but to enlarge and extend its reach..." They may have been landed white men. But they were fighting against the richest of all men at the time, the King of England. And in doing so created a country that is "For the People, By the People"

We, the People, have allowed Democracy to lose its legitimacy, because we've become alienated, apathetic and disillusions about politics and effectively droped-out of our system. It has always taken the People to hold on the basic truths upon which our country is founded. My only hope is that the People will finally get pissed off enough to stand up and declare our independence from campaign corruption.

amen. unfotunately, one of the top reasons that people are apathetic when it comes to politics is because they're so disgusted with it. it would take totally revamping our political system to get anything changed, i think. because in order to get in a position to make changes, you have to sell your soul.

I think it's funny that people are disgusted by the political system, and it's their own damn fault that things are the way they are now. The people have spoken, and from our actions, present and past, this is the government we have, for better or for worse.

And it's not even that bad. I like being able to sit here at my computer and bith about things that I don't have a chance in hell to change. Might sound like a defeatist attitude, but I guess that's what seven years in the military has given me, a huge chip on my shoulder towards the way this government is run, and more specifically it's friggin military, i.e. the navy.

Eh, if we really followed what the founding fathers wanted we should revolt.

I still don't think the founding fathers were all that great. Nor did they really seem to believe that all men are created equal. I've a feeling they put that in there because it sounded good, lol.

Yeah. The founding fathers were all wasted out of their minds when they decided to think up the Declaration, as a joke. So they were telling the scribe (who was their DD) to write all this crazy crap about booze and women but they were so drunk, at that point, that they didn't make any sense. So the scribe was like, "ah screw it" and BSed his way through it all. :p
