Other than Star Wars, what other science-fiction, fantasy, or horror movies, books, or shows do you watch or read

Here's my list:

Stargate: SG-1

Transformers (First Generation, Beast Wars, and Beast Machines)

Lord of the Rings

Stephen King novels (The Shining, IT, Bag of Bones, etc)

Jurassic Park! My first true favourite movie! :D

Then later I discovered the likes of Terminator 2, Total Recall, and Back to the Future.

I only found LotR last year when my sister made me watch the DVD of TTT. lol

In books, I'm a Michael Crichton fan. But I don't read much now, besides SW.

On TV, I like a bit of Stargate, and some other stuff that I haven't seen for years... *wonders what happened to it all*

Let's see...

- Star Trek (movies, series and books)

- Stargate SG-1

- Lord of the Rings

- Back to the Future

My brain is still partially asleep...that's all I can think of at the moment, lol.

Best film I've seen? The Day the Earth Caught Fire. This is what happens when the person I babysit for doesn't come back til 3 in hte morning - I end up watching BBC's "like anyone's watching at this time of night" schedules, which include a lot of SciFi.

Anyway, it's black and white and bloody scary. Brilliant ending. Possibly going to be remade soon, though maybe under a less 60s title.

Shows:

Buffy (hey, it's fantasy with SF elements!)

Enterprise, sometimes.

Books:

anything I can get my hands on. Special love for Isaac Asimov. Nostalgic affection for LotR (and stubborn pride for reading the Silmarililion). More SF than Fantasy orientated these days, though still reading trashy vampire novels that I'm not even sure I enjoy (Laurell K Hamilton, Anne Rice etc).

TV: Stargate SG-1 is really the only thing I watch on TV. I'm not much for TV.

Books: Matthew Stover, Michael A. Stackpole, Kevin J. Anderson, Timothy Zahn.

Books: LOTR (and all things Middle Earth), Philip Pullman, Stephen King, Michael Crichton, Orwell, and many others.

TV: None.

Movies: Plenty. Close Encounters, ET, LOTR, The Day the Earth Stood Still, James Bond (sorta goes in this category), Alien and Aliens, Fritz Lang's Metropolis, Young Frankenstein, Silence of the Lambs, Psycho (horror) and other Hitchcock films like Vertigo and Rear Window, The Wizard of Oz, Spaceballs, Back to the Future, etc.

Heroes Die and Blade of Tyshalle by Matt Stover

I also have the LOTR books on my table to read. Whenever I get the time to.

Books: The Ender Series. And the Bean series. Good books. It seems someone on GB may also have read them...once...or twice :p

Whooo!

Is the movie of Sphere any good, do you know? I saw it on DVD and was tempted to buy it...

And I still haven't seen Timeline yet... did you see it?

It's okay. I wouldn't buy it on DVD unless it was very cheap. It's kinda cool, though.

Sphere is alright. It could have been better. Parts of the story was skipped, but the special effects and such, help you envision the book a little better.

Timeline as a movie by itself was pretty cool

Timeline as a movie off of a book, was HORRID. Donner and that so called script writer completely butchered the book.

i enjoyed The Sphere. of course, Sam Jackson was in it, and i never read the book, so i really have nothing to compare to. :D

my favorite series aside from Star Wars would have to be Dune. the first Dune is one of those books you read for the last 100 pages or so when chaos breaks loose. mmmm......carnage. :D
