If you're fan of the NJO (particularly from VP to Tr), then you'd probably like Stephen King. Great characters, unpredictability, dark themes, emotion, humor, etc.

King books I'd recommend:

The Shining

IT (only one to ever give me nightmares)

Bag of Bones

Firestarter

The Stand

Pet Sematary (but it's very, very disturbing)

The general consensus with King's work are his earlier works (from the 1970s to mid-1980s) are generally better than his later stuff, sans a few books here and there.

Ender

The Ender series by Orson Scott Card is fantastic. Lots of plot twists, unpredictability... (Is that even a word?)

I'm not too keen on Stephen King... I tried to read Pet Semetary once, but I got bored, and couldn't be bothered to carry on. lol

Oops. Forgot to mention books I do like...

Well aside from SW, I'm a fan of Michael Crichton. My favourites are Congo, Jurassic Park, The Lost World, and Timeline.

Occo, The Eternally Mana-Screwed One

Ender's right. The entire Ender series is great, although I haven't read Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, and Children of the Mind yet. I have read Ender's Game, Ender's Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon, and Shadow Puppets...great books, especially Shadow of the Hegemon.
