Josh Trank leaves Star Wars project

Andy

Josh Trank has left the second Star Wars anthology film it has been reported, ending weeks of rumors after his absence from Star Wars Celebration last month. The director, who has directed the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, and is perhaps best known for the found-footage superpower drama Chronicle, was announced as director of the second spin-off movie last year.

It had been rumored that disagreements between Trank and the production team had become evident, and although he was due to appear alongside Gareth Edwards during the Rogue One panel at Celebration it was announced at the start of the panel that he would not be attending.

In a statement, Trank said "After a year of having the incredible honor of developing with the wonderful and talented people at Lucasfilm, I'm making a personal decision to move forward on a different path. I've put a tremendous amount of thought into this, and I know deep down in my heart that I want to pursue some original creative opportunities."

However, according the Hollywood Reporter, the director was fired from the project.

The spin-off movies were announced to be called "anthology films" at Celebration, and Josh Trank's film was to be the second in the series, to be released in 2018 between Star Wars Episode VIII and XI. No cast or has yet been announced for the film, but suggested storylines were rumored to revolve around Boba Fett or a young Han Solo.

Rogue One (subtitled "A Star Wars Story"), is the first in a planned series of Star Wars spin-off films, originally referred to as "anthology films".
Rogue One is set shortly before the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, and will follow a group of rebel spies as they attempt to steal the plans for the Galactic Empire's first Death Star superweapon.
Filming took place at Elstree Studies near London between August 2015 and February 2016, with reshoots taking place in June 2016. Alexandre Desplat, who previously worked with Edwards on Godzilla was originally slated to score the film, but due to production delays he was no longer available and was replaced by Michael Giacchino once he had finished up on Marvel's Doctor Strange.

So they've apparently auditioned over 2500 people for the role of young Han.  Some famous names have been attached to this (including Dave Franco, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Miles Teller, and Rami Malek)... but I really hope they go with a relative unknown for the role. Someone with a resemblance to Harrison/Han, but not a body double... who can pull off his sarcastic charm.

And also, I wonder if this will involve the new plot revelation from a recent comic in which Han had seemingly been married in the past before meeting Leia. I suppose it all depends on when it happened and why and how long it lasted and etc.
