Spoilers ahead: If you have not yet seen The Mandalorian season 2 finale, continue reading this article at your own risk.

The existence of a Boba Fett series has been heavily rumoured right from the very beginning of The Mandalorian. In season two we were finally reintroduced to Fett, played by Temuera Morrison as he helped Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) on his path the bring Grogu to the Jedi. After playing his part, Fett splits from the group along with his companion Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) and jumps into hyperspace.

After the credits have rolled on the episode we are treated to a post-credits scene which reveals the title card for The Book of Boba Fett and a date of December 2021. A Boba Fett spinoff was not part of the Disney Investor's Day announcements, but this isn't the first time that Disney have kept something quiet to avoid spoiling their plans.

So what is The Book of Boba Fett?

Theory 1: It's just the title of The Mandalorian season 3

Given that Djarin has now fulfilled his obligation to bring Grogu to the Jedi (I did warn you there would be spoilers), series 3 will need a new focus.

There are unresolved threads that the series needs to address, such as Mando's possession of the Darksaber which Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) needs to legitimise her claim to Mandalore. Reclaiming Mandalore itself would seem to be an obvious choice for a series titled The Mandalorian.

There had also been rumours that Fett would take over as the lead character of the show, but with the aforementioned unresolved issues and Pascal coming out recently to address this year's earlier rumours of tension with the production team, this seems even more unlikely.

	Theory 2: It's a brand new Disney+ show

To me, this theory holds the most weight. With Fett's return to Tatooine at the end of the episode, he clearly has some old scores to settle. The given release date of December 2021 does match up with the third season of The Mandalorian, suggesting that the series' may retain some kind of link. With Mando returning to Disney+ in late December, it seems that The Book of Boba Fett may be a short limited series that leads up to its return.

Jon Favreau, one of the forces behind the highly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe, previously said that The Mandalorian would follow a Game of Thrones style route with characters and story lines, sending them off on their own arcs, and this ties in with this month's announcements of new shows for Ahsoka and Rangers of the New Republic, and also fits neatly with Fett getting his own spin-off too.

Ahsoka and Rangers are already said to be linked and crossover with each other, and The Book of Boba Fett would mean that there are now four interconnected shows that share a common cast and space in the timeline. It seems that when Favreau mentioned Game of Thrones he was attempting to throw us off the scent that really Disney are creating an MCU-style ecosystem of shows within the Star Wars universe.

In today's Disney Investor Day call, it has been confirmed that a new Disney+ show featuring Rosario Dawson's Ahsoka Tano is in development.

Due to the early stages of development, we have no timeline on when we can expect to see the new show launch, but it was confirmed that the show would be set after the events of Star Wars: Rebels but before she encounters Din Djarin and Grogu in The Mandalorian season 2.

As fans of the togruta former Jedi would expect, Dave Filoni will serve as creator and executive producer for the new show. Filoni handled Ahsoka's live-action debut in The Mandalorian and is certainly no stranger to the character having executive produced The Clone Wars and Rebels.

The show will also tie in to another new series, Rangers of the New Republic, with which it will apparently have a climactic crossover.

Ahsoka is expected to return with her own show in 2022.

The series is a six-episode limited series set in the time when Kenobi was exiled on Tatooine between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, 11 years before the Battle of Yavin.

Production has been delayed due to the Covid-19 outbreak, and although no release date has yet been announced it is expected to premiere on the Disney+ streaming service in late 2021 or early 2022.

Last year The Mandalorian helped push Star Wars to a new audience on the Disney+ steaming platform, and the service has finally revealed that the premiere date for the highly anticipated second series will be 30 October 2020.

The previous series ended with Mando escaping from the clutches of the Empire with a promise to safeguard The Child, affectionately known to fans as Baby Yoda.

Little is known about the second series, but part of the story arc is expected to revolve around the legendary Darksaber, which somehow ended up in the hands of Moff Gideon. It has also been rumoured that Temuera Morrison, who portrayed the bounty hunter Jango Fett in the prequels may make a cameo appearance as his cloned "son", the long time fan favourite Boba Fett who first introduced us to Mandalorian armour in the Star Wars Holiday Special and The Empire Strikes Back.

Kessel Run Podcast has announced that Solo: A Star Wars Story's Donald Glover is to reprise the role of Lando Calrissian for a new Disney+ series.

The rumour, which has not been confirmed but Disney or Lucasfilm, puts Lando as the lead character and mentions a possible title for the series being the Calrissian Chronicles, which are also referenced in-universe as Lando's self-narrated record of his adventures.

During Solo we briefly see Lando dropping references to the former Star Wars expanded universe novels by L Neil Smith, which were grouped under the Lando Calrissian Adventures banner and would be an ideal source for any adventure series featuring Lando.

So, will we be seeing Lando Calrissian visit the Starcave of ThonBoka? Perhaps, but the system of Oseon and the Mindharp of Sharu have already been absorbed into canon so it's entirely feasible that we could see these adventures realised in a Disney+ series.

The series may even be the unknown series announced on Star Wars Day earlier this year, which was said at the time to be lead by Leslye Headland who previously co-created the Netflix drama-comedy series Russian Doll.

We will watch this rumour with great interest.

Lucasfilm has today announced a new Star Wars animated series for the Disney+ 2021 lineup.

According to Lucasfilm, the new series entitled Star Wars: The Bad Batch will be a spin-off of the critically acclaimed animated show Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and will follow the eponymous Bad Batch of clones in the aftermath of the Clone Wars. The Bad Batch were introduced in the final season of The Clone Wars, which premiered on Disney+ earlier this year.

The Bad Batch were a squad of experimental clones with very different training from their fellow clonetrooper comrades, who turn to the mercenary life after the end of the Clone Wars.

The show will be executive produced by a host of Star Wars alumni including Dave Filoni (The Mandalorian, The Clone Wars), Athena Portillo (The Clone Wars, Rebels), Brad Rau (Rebels, Resistance) and Jennifer Corbett (Resistance). Carrie Beck (The Mandalorian, Rebels) will also serve as co-executive producer, with Josh Rimes (Restistance) joining as a producer.

The chances are that this has already been spoiled for you, but in case you are at least trying to avoid spoilers for The Mandalorian season 2, this is your last warning: SPOILERS AHEAD!

Sources have revealed to Hollywood Reporter that an iconic character will return to our screens in the second season of the lauded Disney+ Star Wars TV show, and it's one that may have already been teased to us in season 1.

At the end of episode 5 "The Gunslinger", we briefly see a mysterious figure approach the body of Fennec Shand, who was dispatched by the wannabe bounty hunter Toro Calican, but we never see who this character actually was. It's reasonable to assume that this was Moff Gideon hot on the trail of Mando and the Child, but it could just as easily have been another bounty hunter. Wearing distinctive spurs which can be heard in the character's previous appearance in The Empire Strikes Back, could this mystery figure have been none other than Boba Fett?

Well, this casting leak seems to lend more weight to this take on the scene, as it has been reported that Temuera Morrison will be donning Mandalorian armour once more. Morrison previously played the bounty hunter Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones, so it makes perfect sense that he would return to play his own clone "son" Boba.

But wait, isn't Boba Fett dead? Well, that's complicated. Boba Fett first appeared in the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special, but most people remember him from his big screen debut in The Empire Strikes Back. In Return of the Jedi Fett was rather disappointingly killed off during the fight on Tatooine, and while various books and comics showed that he had survived his fall into the Sarlacc Pit they have all been decanonised in the Disney era. The Mandalorian season 1 takes place 5 years after the Return of the Jedi, and episode 5 took place on Tatooine - coincidence?

Finally we have some news regarding the upcoming Disney+ series following Rogue One: A Star Wars Story's Cassian Andor.

As we already know, Diego Luna is reprising his role as Cassian Andor with Alan Tudyk joining him as K-2SO, but a new returning cast member has been confirmed in the shape of Genevieve O'Reilly.

O'Reilly previously portrayed Mon Mothma in Rogue One and in a scene that was famously left on the digital cutting room floor of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

Stellan Skarsgård, Denise Gough, and Kyle Soller are also joining the cast in unspecified co-starring roles.

The co-writer of Rogue One, Tony Gilroy, will be returning to pick up the reigns as showrunner from Stephen Schiff as well as writing and directing. Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler), Beau Willimon (House of Cards), and Stephen Schiff (The Americans) will also write episodes for the series.

This news comes via StarWars.com who have also indicated that as of yet there has been no announcement regarding a release date.

Production on the series has been hit by the outbreak of COVID-19, but visual effects artist Neal Scanlan recently revealed that six weeks worth of pre-production had been completed prior to the lockdown.

Disney are reportedly eyeing up a new Star Wars animated series for the Disney+ streaming service, and it will take the form of a sequel to the acclaimed Disney XD show, Star Wars Rebels, according to First Order Transmissions. They also report that Rebels and The Clone Wars producer/director Dave Filoni will be returning in some capacity.

Star Wars Rebels spans a period of time from 5 BBY up until after the events of Return of the Jedi, and ended in March 2018 after four seasons. The finale saw the crew of the Ghost face off against Thrawn, and ended with Ahsoka Tano and Sabine joining forces to search for a missing Ezra Bridger. All of the main characters of the show had a definite resolution to their arcs, with the exception of Ezra, with Dave Filoni remaining tight-lipped on the young Jedi's fate.

With Star Wars: The Clone Wars returning for a seventh and final season in February 2020, exclusively on Disney+ and predicted to be a big success for the fledgling streaming service, it's a sure bet that Lucasfilm will be looking to bolster their Star Wars offerings.

For those not in the know, The Clone Wars was an animated Star Wars film and Cartoon Network animated series, introduced Ahsoka Tano as the padawan of Anakin Skywalker, and developed their relationship and her eventual exit from the Jedi Order. As a fan favourite, Ahsoka's reappearance in Star Wars Rebels was met with praise.

In The Rise of Skywalker, Ahsoka's voice is heard by Rey as she channels the power of the Jedi, appearing to confirm that she had become one with the Force by the time of the sequel trilogy, however Dave Filoni has since teased that we have not seen the last of Ahsoka, and perhaps The Clone Wars season 7 will not be the last time we do.

With Kathleen Kennedy recently revealing that the scripts for the upcoming live-action Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series are already finished, the main man himself has finally started talking; and it turns out Ewan McGregor is pretty good at keeping secrets, even when speculation was at a fever pitch.

During an interview, McGregor is reported to have revealed that his series won't start shooting until summer 2020, and that there will be a total of six hour-long episodes. McGregor intends to play the role of the erstwhile Jedi Master closer to Sir Alec Guinness' portrayal of the character in the original Star Wars trilogy, and at the age of 48 he will be pretty close to Kenobi's canonical age in this series, which is set around 11 years before the events of the first movie.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show will likely not hit the Disney+ streaming service until 2021, but there is plenty more in the pipeline to keep Star Wars fans happy until then.

Deborah Chow has been chosen to direct the upcoming Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series, it has been announced. The announcement came via the official Star Wars Instagram, and later confirmed via an interview with Variety.

Chow's TV credits include Better Call Saul, the adaptation of Neil Gaiman's American Gods novels, and Netflix/Marvel show Jessica Jones, as well as already having a hand in upcoming show The Mandalorian.

We really wanted to select a director who is able to explore both the quiet determination and rich mystique of Obi-Wan in a way that folds seamlessly into the Star Wars saga. Based on her phenomenal work developing our characters in The Mandalorian, I'm absolutely confident Deborah is the right director to tell this story.

Ewan McGregor will be reprising the role of Obi-Wan, which he made his own in the Star Wars prequels. Not much is known about the show, except that it is set eight years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, which puts it at around 11 years before the original Star Wars movie.

The Obi-Wan TV series, which will be a Disney+ exclusive, doesn't have a release date yet, but is expected to begin shooting next year.

After what seems like an eternity of waiting, the first official trailer for The Mandalorian is here. It has been almost 15 years since fans were first promised a live-action Star Wars TV show, and this new show from Jon Favreau looks set to fulfil the bargain when it launches along with Disney+ this November.

The trailer was revealed at the D23, and confirms previously speculated details, such as the shows setting between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. While the Mandalorian remains his silent mysterious self, we do see a few snippets of action, including firefight with IG-11, a new character based on everybody's favourite assassin-droid-turned-bounty-hunter IG-88.

The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal as the titular Mandalorian, supported by MMA fighter and actress Gina Carano as Cara Dune, Carl Weathers as Greef, as well as a host of other famed actors.

Ming-Na Wen (Mulan, Marvel's Agents of SHIELD) has also been added to the list of cast, after being announced by Disney chief Bob Iger. Wen has had her eye on a role in Star Wars for a while now, but it is still unknown what role she will play in The Mandalorian.

The return of Ewan McGregor to the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi has been rumoured and speculated about for years, and now several news outlets, including Variety and The Guardian, are reporting that fans will finally get their wish.

The role of the Jedi Knight made famous by Sir Alec Guinness first became McGregor's in 1999's Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace and he continued in the role throughout the Star Wars prequels. Kenobi was previously all but confirmed to return in a standalone movie before the spin-off anthology films were canned, following the underwhelming (according to Disney execs) performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story.

The new word on the grapevine is that Disney has commissioned a TV series that will develop the story of Obi-Wan, with McGregor signing on for his return. The show would presumably be set during the dark times between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, and follow the exiled Kenobi on Tatooine.

The series would of course find a home on the Disney+ streaming service which launches later this year, and would sit alongside The Mandalorian and the as yet untitled Cassian Andor series.

No concrete details have been revealed yet, but with the Disney D23 Expo just around the corner, we are sure to hear something very soon, but until we see Ewan McGregor walk out on stage with a cheeky "hello there!" I certainly wouldn't blame anybody for taking this news with a hefty pinch of salt.
