EA commits to a decade of Star Wars gaming

Andy
  • It has been revealed that the Star Wars gaming deal between Disney and EA is one that will last at least a decade. The gaming giant signed a ten year licence to continue to publish video games set in the Star Wars universe.

So far the only confirmed game in development is DICE's next installment in the Star Wars: Battlefront series, with development and support continuing as planned for the MMO The Old Republic.

EAs chief financial officer, Blake Jorgenson, insists that they do not plan on simply creating games based on the movies and will continue to delve into and add to the rich diversity of the expanded universe.

BioWare, original developers of the Knights of the Old Republic series, and Dead Space developer Visceral have also been mentioned in connection to future Star Wars titles. Unfortunately, however, there has still been no sign of a revival of the eagerly anticipated 1313 project.

    • Jedi: Fallen Order to release this autumn

EA have revealed during their recent financial statement that Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars video game, Jedi: Fallen Order, will release in autumn 2019.
Despite being highly anticipated by fans there is little information available about Jedi: Fallen Order, and no screenshots or footage has been revealed. The game is set in the period between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, and is said to follow a Jedi being hunted down by agents of the Galactic Empire.
Respawn's founder Vince Zampella has said that the game will be a single player action adventure game, that will (unsurprisingly) feature lightsaber combat. Development of the game is being lead by Stig Asmussen who was previously the creative lead on God of War III. In a 2016 blog post, Asmussen stated that Respawn "promise to pay respect to the Star Wars legacy at all times, a fact that will be constantly reinforced and honored as a central game design tenet."
      We impatiently await further details.

    • Battlefront 4 concept art

Just came across this Eurogamer article about concept art that has surfaced for the cancelled pre-reboot Battlefront 4 game.
      Did somebody say Emperor Vader?
Seems like it would have been a pretty interesting "what if" story.
